Week 37 brought forward

The Spanish Football League (LFP) have reportedly exercised the option to move Week 37’s fixtures forward from a midweek setting to the weekend.

The penultimate run of games in La Liga was provisionally set earlier in the season for the midweek of Wednesday May 29 so as to leave the weekend of May 25 and 26 vacant, providing for any Spanish representation in the Champions League Final at Wembley on the 25th.

However, in light of Barcelona following Real Madrid out of the competition at the semi-final stage this week, the League have reportedly acted to move the midweek round back to the same weekend as the Champions League Final, which will now be contested between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

This round of fixtures includes Real Madrid’s trip to Champions League qualification-chasing Real Sociedad and the Catalan derby at Cornella-El Prat between Espanyol and Barcelona.
