Juanfran calm about LFP probe

Juanfran says that he is calm about the Spanish League’s reported probe into match fixing at Levante, whilst also commenting on Javier Barkero’s apology.

Los Granotes have been listed in reports today as facing an investigation from the Anti-corruption Office after the LFP’s alleged suspicions that the club’s Week 31 4-0 defeat to Deportivo was fixed.

This follows on from reports that revealed Barkero’s allegations made against his teammates from that game, which he later apologised for and retracted.

The situation has reportedly prompted an emergency board meeting at the club, but their veteran defender is unconcerned.

“I am happy to see the LFP are checking into these things because it will clean everything up,” commented Juanfran to reporters today.

“The investigation is not there because what Barkero said came out, it is because everything has to be clear.

“Barkero’s comments? Yesterday he apologised and we must recognise that. For us the issue is closed.

“We have been relaxed since day one. And now we think only of sporting matters. Now we do not consider the future, only the present and ensuring our League survival.

“My future? I want to stay here and I have no doubt about that. But for now I am not thinking about it.

“Much has been said of the internal conflict, some is true and others are lies. The group has been damaged by this, but yesterday was a clean slate and nothing has happened.

“The group is well. Barkero’s apology was needed and it was with courage, that’s what counts.

“The message from the club? The President has told us to be calm and he has a clear conscience. This has hurt us and it must be forgotten.”
