Aspas ‘indebted’ to teammates

Iago Aspas admits that he has a debt to his Celta Vigo teammates for having missed the last four games through suspension.

The striker’s headbutt on Carlos Marchena in the Galician derby against Deportivo earned him a four-game ban.

Having watched his teammates pick up four points from those subsequent fixtures in his absence, Aspas is keen to repay the favour, if he returns for Saturday’s trip to Levante.

“More than to the fans, I believe I have a debt to my teammates because have wronged them and especially as a team,” the 25-year-old told reporters this week.

“The fans also because they have a badge, a name and a reputation behind them that is not worthy of what I have done.

“I will learn from my mistakes. Eighty per cent of the damage I have done is to me. What how much I like football, staying away from the field has been hard, you suffer a lot in the stands.

“It is difficult to regain my place. The Coach has used the same 11 in the last two weeks and they are doing very well.

“Even those coming off the bench are providing different things.”
