Pedro: My best moment

Barcelona and Spain forward Pedro Rodriguez has described this season as the ‘perhaps the happiest in my career’.

The attacking winger has found goals hard to come by at club level, but has been La Roja’s leading goalscorer in a season that has so far presented the 25-year-old with regular playing time.

“It is possible the happiest moment in my career, I’m pleased with the way things are working out with Barcelona and with La Seleccion,” Pedro told SER radio this week.

“I’m playing a lot of minutes and that is important for any player.

“Maybe I have had chances to score more goals than I have managed, but for me it is still a good season.”

The forward was asked of the situation the club went through earlier in the year, when Coach Tito Vilanova was re-diagnosed with cancer and was absent through treatment for two months.

“That a member of your team goes through the situation that he has experienced is the worst news you can get.

“These things are difficult, but on the other hand they are situations that make you stronger and the dressing room grows closer.

“Vilanova is an amazing person with a very strong mentality. He wanted to be with us every day, being next to the players and doing what he likes – to see him well is the greatest job, more than any title. His health is most important to us – that he returns to 100 per cent.

“Obviously he has been missed for so long. Jordi Roura has done a good job when it was not easy, but at certain moments of the season perhaps the outcome would have been different.

“Anyway, you cannot know. Moreover, I insist that the situation is difficult to handle, for Tito too who was out.

“I think we have done well, we are happy because we are fighting for the Champions League and the League.”

From next season, former Coach Pep Guardiola is back in the game as he takes over at Bayern Munich.

“It would be weird to face him. Pep means much for Barcelona, first as a player and then as a Coach.

“To see him at another club will be strange for everyone, but I hope that he has much success.”
