Casillas hopes for legacy

Iker Casillas has revealed what his favourite trophy ever won is and has reflected on how he would best like to be remembered.

The goalkeeper has signed on to be an ambassador for Audi and as part of the agreement gave an interview this week to the car manufacturers.

Discussing a number of subjects, the Real Madrid man reflected first on his favourite trophy won so far in his career.

“My favourite title? The Champions League of 2000. It was the first title of my career and as the first European Cup it was also amazing,” commented Casillas, before reflecting on his career to date and how he’d like it to be remembered.

“I hope to be remembered as a player who has worn the shirt of Real Madrid and the Spanish national team with pride and respect and has tried to give everything for these shirts.

“When I retire I hope to remain linked to football.

“But my current challenge is to win as many titles as possible because it makes me happy. I know it also makes then happy at Real Madrid, as well as the fans of Spain.”

The ‘keeper revealed that he still remembers the first goal he conceded at senior level, and reflected on who he followed as a youngster.

“It was Julen Guerrero at San Mames. We drew 2-2 and that was the day of my debut with Real Madrid.

“I was a faithful follower of all the goalkeepers who played for Real Madrid. But as a reference it was Peter Schmeichel.”
