Iniesta: No doubts from us

Andres Iniesta has reflected that it was perhaps natural for fans to have doubted Spain, except that the team never did.

La Roja bounced back from a draw on Friday against Finland to take top spot in the 2014 World Cup qualifying group with a 1-0 win in Paris against France.

“The team has never had doubts. Those have been from outside,” Iniesta told reporters afterwards.

“The game was very serious and competitive. The team has taken a step forward.

“In some ways it is normal for the supporters to have doubted us.

“When you have so much success and excellence and then go wrong, comments arise. But we prefer this situation to how it has been in recent years.

“Finland hurt us but we responded well.

“Valdes’ performance? The goal is very safe with him. He has been on form.”

La Roja had first-half appeals for a penalty on eventual match-winner Pedro Rodriguez waved away.

“The penalty was clear. The referee has decided in a 10th of a second and in that moment decided what he did…”
