Varane on France, Mou & pressure

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has spoken of the pressure he will be under when he plays for France against Spain on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old is expected to be named in the starting XI for the crucial World Cup qualifier in Paris next week.

And the young centre-back has admitted it will be a tough coming up against some of his Los Blancos teammates.

“I have played some high-pressure matches for Madrid, but it is difficult to compare those with France,” he told AS.

“Not that [playing for the national team] generates more pressures – there are just different emotions.

“Playing for your country is always special. Everything is going very fast for me, but I am learning every day with Madrid and now France.

“I am happy with my progress and I hope to continue.

“I haven't spoken to any of my teammates yet, but I'm sure Sergio Ramos and I will talk very soon.”

The former Lens man then commented on the difference between Jose Mourinho and Didier Deschamps, as well as the Portuguese tactician insistence that he does not do too many interviews.

“The two Coaches are very different. Each has their own character, but I do not know Deschamps that well.

“It is true that Mourinho wants to protect me from the media pressure because I am only 19,” he added.

“I think this is normal. Mourinho gives me a lot of confidence and demands a lot from me.

“It's amazing at this age to be able to play at such a high level.”
