Laurent Koscielny believes that Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane’s call-up to the France squad is only a good thing.
Koscielny is one of those who could make way for the in-form 19-year-old long term, but he sees the youngster’s impending senior debut as a positive for Les Bleus.
“The arrival of Varane is good competition.
“He is going to force us to be better for the national team and [for me] at Arsenal. It is a positive for the other defenders,” commented the Arsenal defender, before reflecting on his continued presence in the France team under Didier Deschamps.
“Both on and off the field we have a good relationship. I feel very good at his side.”
France play Georgia and Spain in World Cup qualifying next week.
