Sergio Ramos has reflected on being on the verge of earning his 100th cap at international level for Spain.
The Real Madrid defender will become the latest member of La Seleccion to reach treble figures in appearances for his country in his next game, which is expected to be Friday’s World Cup qualifying match with Finland.
“I will enjoy it on a personal level. I hope I can enter into the history of Spanish football. For me it is an honour and a great personal challenge,” Ramos told reporters today.
“Any objectives achieved at a personal level are very important for players. It has been many years that I have been with the team and this is an honour for me.
“Hopefully in the future I can say that I played many more than 100.”
The 26-year-old also reflected on the task facing La Roja, who after Finland then face France in a potential qualifying group decider in Paris.
“We come with clear ideas. We are aware that there are two games with much impact, we are playing to get to the World Cup and we want to do things right.
“The game against France will be very complicated. I have not spoken with Varane or Benzema, there are days remaining to text each other, but before that game we have Finland, and you cannot underestimate anyone because today any team can hurt you. After that, we will think about France.”
