Cavani worth €500m to Madrid?

Real Madrid have reportedly identified Napoli’s Edinson Cavani as a key signing this summer to maintain their current revenue status.

The Spanish capital club have been linked on and off with a move for the Uruguayan hitman, who has a buyout clause of €63m.

Reports in Spain and Italy this week suggest that Madrid are once more considering a move for the 26-year-old, with a cash sum of €35m listed, alongside the offer of a player in part-exchange, thought to be Portuguese full-back Fabio Coentrao.

According to Italian outlet Sporteconomy, any deal to bring Cavani to the Santiago Bernabeu would be in part to maintain the club’s revenue streams that are just over €500m a year.

It is understood that President Florentino Perez believes that a marquee signing is required this coming summer to maintain commercial interest in Madrid, and that Cavani’s standing in South America would pay dividends.

Madrid have otherwise been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid’s Colombian forward Radamel Falcao.
