‘Survival achieved, now to Europe!’

Ruben Castro has asserted that Real Betis are now safe from relegation and are turning their attention towards qualifying for Europe.

Los Beticos’ win in Week 27 over Osasuna has left them sitting sixth in La Liga, with 43 points on the board and 11 rounds of action still to play.

“We have achieved the goal of survival, now we are thinking towards playing in Europe,” Castro declared to reporters today.

“We are excited and eager to get the three points that will be at stake next weekend at Valencia.

“We can achieve something positive at Mestalla, but even in defeat nothing would change because we would still be in with the chance of qualifying for European competition.

“I am in good form this season, fighting to be top scorer with two national team players like Negredo and Soldado. I aim to surpass last year’s total of 16 goals for the team.

“The national team? Despite being in good form, my opportunity with Spain was in the past. It remains my hope, but it is very difficult to get into the squad.”
