‘Celta’s effort not rewarded’

Abel Resino rued that Celta Vigo’s fight until the end against Real Madrid was not rewarded with at least a point.

The relegation candidates pulled Madrid back to 1-1 in the second half of their Sunday evening League encounter, only to see Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty kick win it for the visitors.

“With this attitude we can continue to improve. With this release we will fight to the end,” enthused Resino afterwards.

“The squad is hurt that their effort was not rewarded, but we must raise ourselves as soon as possible.

“Keep in mind that we were against a great team, often teams like Real Madrid dictate how games go.

“We came out very well, kept them at bay, we worked very hard. We equalised but then conceded a second to Cristiano [the penalty].

“The team has remained motivated until the end, which is the most outstanding note, to have not lost face in the game.

“We must recover as soon as we can because we now have a big game against a direct rival [next Friday’s derby with Deportivo].

“Celta on Friday have to be a step up from today. With this current trend, we will eventually get our rewards.”
