Suker: Modric coming good

Former Real Madrid striker Davor Suker believes that Luka Modric is now showing his true worth after a shaky start for Los Blancos.

The Croatian midfielder found himself on the fringes of the first team at Santiago Bernabeu following his move from Tottenham in the summer.

But the 45-year-old, who is now President of the Croatian Football Federation, has claimed that his countryman has what it takes to be a success in La Liga.

“Modric is a great player with a great future,” he told AS. “You have to give him time and be patient.

“He missed out on a lot of pre-season training and that has taken its toll, but now I see him and he looks well.

“It was a double joy for me [when he scored against Manchester United on Tuesday] – firstly because it was Madrid and secondly because it was a Croatian goalscorer.

“I hope Madrid can continue on this journey and reach the final at Wembley.”
