Celta Vigo have released a statement denying that the substance Quique De Lucas was pictured drinking on the bench last weekend was beer.
The player was pictured [above] on the Celta bench just before their defeat to Sevilla with a clear plastic cup with what had the appearance of beer in it.
However, following on from increasing speculation, the Galician side have offered official comment on the incident, claiming that it was only an energy drink.
“Given the news that has generated about Quique De Lucas saying that the player consumed beer during the game against Sevilla, Celta Vigo and the footballer categorically deny that it was this drink,” read a statement posted on the club’s official website today.
“The striker ingested an energy drink in the minutes before the start of the game.”
