‘Win good for Sevilla’s self-esteem’

Unai Emery was delighted with Sevilla’s 4-1 win over Celta Vigo on Monday night, even if he believed that his side could have scored more.

Alvaro Negredo’s hat-trick and a strike from Gary Medel was enough to decide the closing Week 26 fixture in the home side’s favour.

“The win was worked for against an opponent that in truth are uncomfortable away from home, but in most games have had results not reflective of their ability,” enthused Emery post-match.

“We knew it would be a complicated game, particularly in the first half. If we could hold them over to the second half then we had more capacity to decide the game.

“We have not been brilliant as the scoreboard suggests, but we played in sparks and the result does not say that we could have had more chances.

“Victory is important for our trajectory and so as to establish ourselves at home and raise our self-esteem.

“Now we have a final against Mallorca [next weekend], because every game they have done well. At home we have turned things around, and if we want to be protagonists then we will have to perform right away.”
