Former Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid midfielder Bernd Schuster believes that the two teams should contest the Copa del Rey Final in the capital.
The two clubs are seen as in disagreement over the proposed venue to host the mid-May final, with Atleti open to staying in Madrid and Madrid pushing for the Camp Nou.
“To me, it should not be played at the Camp Nou in Barcelona. Both fans are here in Madrid, we have two huge stadiums and it is much nicer to play in Madrid. That is my opinion, what I would like.
“Plus they have said that there are works to be done at the Camp Nou in May,” joked the German, in reference to last year’s final between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao not being played at the Bernabeu due to claimed refurbishment work.
Schuster also cast his eye over the midweek performance from Los Blancos, which saw them guarantee their spot in the final.
“The superiority of Real Madrid in that game was clear, from the result and the play. For me, it was the best match I have seen from Real Madrid at the Camp Nou.
“Madrid’s defending was the best, I am not talking of just the back four, or Khedira and Xabi Alonso, but also Higuain, Di Maria and Ozil.
“Madrid defended like Milan did two weeks ago against Barcelona. They did a lot of counter-attacking, they were daring in attack, but mostly they defended.
“Seeing a Barcelona side unable to create almost anything deserves much credit.”
