Fractured arm for Tiago

Tiago Mendes faces a spell on the sidelines for Atletico Madird, as he undergoes surgery on a fractured arm suffered yesterday.

The Portuguese midfielder picked up the injury during the first half of last night’s Copa del Rey semi-final second leg draw with Sevilla and was forced off the pitch.

Tests carried out later confirmed that he has fractured the ulna in his right arm and he underwent corrective surgery today.

No recovery spell has been determined, but it is suggested that the 31-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, faces two months out.

“I tried to keep playing but I realised that I could not,” the player told Atletico’s official website today.

“The bone was broken and I felt the whole arm move. It hurt so much and I tried to fix it to the other arm so as to not move so much.”
