Barca: Flare wasn’t Madrid’s

Barcelona have confirmed that Real Madrid fans were not responsible for the lit flare that was thrown between supporters during the Clasico.

During the second half of the midweek meeting between Barca and Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg, television pictures highlighted a flare being thrown between sets of fans at the Camp Nou.

It was suggested that Madrid fans in the upper tier had lit and thrown it, but an investigation by staff at Barca has now confirmed otherwise.

“It was not a group of Real Madrid fans that threw the flare. We have verified where this flare comes from and it was not there,” Vice-President of social affairs at the club, Jordi Cardoner, told Catalunya Radio today.

Cardoner described the flare as ‘easy to hide’ and therefore ‘difficult to detect’. Reuters report that the club’s security personnel will study footage to now try and determine who exactly brought it into the Camp Nou.
