‘Instead of Mourinho, Paco Herrera’

Jorge Valdano has suggested that recently sacked Celta Vigo Coach Paco Herrera or Paco Jemez could replace Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.

Mourinho is seen as on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu this summer following an unsettling 2012-13 campaign so far, on and off the pitch.

Former Madrid player, Coach and director Valdano, who clashed with Mourinho whilst at the club, has suggested that a change in philosophy would be wise.

“In times of confusion it is very important to see true essence, Spanish players, a Spanish Coach… that gamble was taken with the club’s basketball team and it has worked very well,” Valdano reflected to reporters today.

“In football you can do the same, there is no need for a ‘superman’ to manage a squad that is very professional, they are relatively easy to manage.”

The Argentine was asked to consider who he’d like to see at the club, and picked out Paco Herrera, who was sacked last week by Celta Vigo, and Paco Jemez, who is impressing this term at Rayo Vallecano.

“I like everyone down to mid-table, Herrera just left his club but is an interesting proposal, or Paco Jemez.”

Even so, Valdano commented that he does not think Mourinho will necessary leave Madrid this summer as otherwise anticipated.

“Like they are fireworks, every newspaper has made their bet, but I do not think anything is for definite. The results dictate the decision and they are still in hand.

“I remain confident that whilst Madrid need a goal in the Champions League away to Manchester United, it is not very hard for them to get one.”
