Adrian Lopez reflected that Atletico Madrid can ‘leave with their heads held high’, in being eliminated from the Europa League.

The capital club won 1-0 away to Rubin Kazan in the second leg of their Round of 32 clash, which wasn’t enough to prevent an aggregate 2-1 defeat and elimination for the defending champions.

“We have come close. We have played the game in the way that we had to do,” commented attacker Adrian at full-time.

“We have been out there attacking, creating chances and we did not have good luck in some moments. We tried to finish and we are pleased with our work.

“When you get knocked out you want to go with your head held high. We had a great game in a difficult stadium and we deserved more.”
