Verdu set for Espanyol talks

Joan Verdu is reportedly open to resume negotiations with Espanyol over a contract renewal, which the club plan to be ‘creative’ about.

The creative midfielder had previously indicated that, after rejecting the club’s offer of a new deal last summer, that he would wait until the end of this season before considering his options.

With his contract expiring in June, Atletico Madrid have reportedly been in contact, whilst Sevilla were understood this week to have sent in a three-year contract offer.

Despite these offers representing better terms than Espanyol have yet to offer, Verdu is reported today as set to reopen negotiations with Los Pericos, whilst it is also believed that he has already said no to more than one proposal from other Liga clubs.

It is understood that he would be wiling to extend his stay at Cornella-El Prat, whilst the club are seen as keen to work ‘creatively’ to improve his earnings.

Whilst they are reported as unable to improve the basic terms offered last summer to the 29-year-old, talks this weekend between sporting director Oscar Perarnau and his agent Magico Diaz will see clauses and bonuses set in place to boost his income.
