Diego Simeone praised Atletico Madrid for their 3-0 win at Real Valladolid, calling it their best performance of the season.
Atleti put to one side poor performances against Rayo Vallecano and Rubin Kazan to record a convincing win at the Jose Zorilla on Sunday evening.
“We had never lost that essence. We played bad for the first time against Rayo and against Rubin we played a match that has left us with an uphill task,” began Simeone post-match.
“I am proud of my team, a team of men. It is a group of players that know they can play. It was one of the best games of the season.
“We played a strong game. Normally there is a phase where the opponent comes into the game and the result is jeopardised, but that did not happen here.
“At no time was the result in doubt and we were superior at all times.
“Did I change anything tactically? Yes, we spoke this week in the dressing room and everything ran perfectly.”
