Jemez: Ask for more from Rayo

Paco Jemez has suggested that Rayo Vallecano’s fans keep expecting more from the team this season, so that they can achieve more.

The Madrid minnows defeated city rivals Atletico Madrid on Sunday evening 2-1 at Vallecas to move on to 37 points for the season.

Sitting in sixth position and just two points away from the final Champions League qualification spot, Rayo should now start considering more than just League survival, argues their Coach.

“We must always ask the team for more. We always have to be more demanding with ourselves. I believe we can go where we are demanded to,” Jemez told reporters after last night’s win.

“Now we are in a situation where we just have to look forward. Our future is clear and we have so far gone where we have been required to go.

“We are not satisfied with what we have achieved, there is no comfort in the dressing room, we want to make more history.

“The biggest thing for today [Sunday], more than the three points, is that people will say how Rayo play football. That is what I am most proud of. We have to enjoy everything that we are doing.”

Jemez was sent to the stands for protesting to the officials.

“There has been a very clear handball after many moves and I said that there was a handball. I did not say anything else. And he ejected me.

“It is a shame we return to the same things. They are situations that do not warrant an expulsion. It is a war that we have lost. Rather than jumping for joy at the victory, I’m upset because I have been sent off, especially since it seems in a most unfair way.”

Rayo’s next match is a trip to the Santiago Bernabeu to face Real Madrid, who they are just nine points behind in the table.

“It’s a very difficult game. We have to focus more on our style and enjoy the trip to the Bernabeu. We do not have to go there with any fear, we have to show what we have shown against Atletico.

“If we lose then it will be because Real Madrid have shown that they are better than us. Let’s go there with difficulty, eager to enjoy and play a good game.”
