Inigo Martinez confirms new deal

Inigo Martinez beat Real Sociedad to the punch by confirming that he has agreed to sign a new four-and-a-half-year contract at the club.

The centre-back is highly rated and was understood to have been in talks about extending and improving terms on his deal at Anoeta for a number of weeks.

Reports that the player and teammate Ruben Pardo had agreed respective new deals surfaced yesterday morning, before the club reportedly denied the news to several outlets.

Mundo Deportivo suggest that Real made clear yesterday that talks with Martinez were ongoing and that they had in fact not received a response to the latest proposal sent to the 21-year-old.

However, by the afternoon, Martinez confirmed that he has agreed a two-year extension to his contract, tying him to La Real until June 2017.

“We have reached an agreement. I said I wanted to stay here and I think there is no better home,” Martinez told reporters this week.

The club are still yet to officially confirm the news or any details behind the renewal, but they did post Martinez’ comments on their official website.
