Emery wants mentality and goals

Unai Emery has laid out his plan of action for Sevilla, commenting on the importance of psychology on the team, and lots of goals for the fans.

The former Valencia boss recently took over at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and is tasked with reversing a difficult situation that sees Sevilla languishing in mid-table.

“I want to send a prudent message, but one that is also ambitious. We have to find a place where the team is comfortable,” the Coach told Sevilla’s official television station this week.

“It is unusual that this team is not in Europe, we have the ambition for the Copa del Rey, but we require a consistency in the League and there remain many points available to get.

“We have to see the positive aspects begun, maintain them and provide continuity, and know how to handle 90 minutes of a game.”

The 41-year-old made clear two particular aspects of balance he is looking for – a strong psychology and an entertaining style of play.

“In football you have to balance the head and the heart, one must have the record and the experience to know how to respond when adversity arises, and also when the game gets easier.

“Here there are the raw materials and we will work hard in the dressing room on the mentality, as it is essential.

“I am after a balance between victory and enjoyment for the fans. If I could choose between winning 1-0 or 4-3, I would rather win 4-3, because I like to have the goals and the spectacle.

“The important thing is to win, but I also like to offer the fans something.”

Emery takes his team to the Santiago Bernabeu this Saturday evening to play Real Madrid.
