Negredo never stopped believing

Alvaro Negredo made clear this week that he never stopped believing that he could return to the national team.

The Sevilla man was included in Vicente del Bosque’s latest squad for Wednesday’s friendly in Qatar against Uruguay.

“I never thought it was not possible to return, event though I knew that it is hard to come back with the competition for places here,” commented the 27-year-old this week.

“My goal is to keep doing the right things to make the Coach see that he can trust me anytime.

“To be in Qatar? I am delighted, everything I have seen, I think for la Seleccion it is an honour to come to Qatar, where great teams have played. Let’s enjoy this and have fun.

“Our absences? There are always players who have performed well at other times and we have done well. Knowing the quality of the players who are absent, those of us here will do our best.”

The striker also had a word of praise for the opposition strikeforce he will likely face on Wednesday.

“Uruguay have strikers who are known in world football, they have done things well, they are on a good run of form, each striker is different but each is strong.

“I’m not one to describe, but we know how they play. They have a world class forward line.”
