‘Valencia will try to beat Barca’

Victor Ruiz has promised that Valencia will host Barcelona on Sunday evening intent on picking up the three points.

Los Che welcome Barca to the Mestalla this Week 22 25 points  and six positions behind the Catalans.

Whilst acknowledging the gulf in quality, Ruiz has enthused that Valencia are planning on aiming for a win this weekend.

“The idea will be the same as ever – we will not change in order to play Barca, but we must not let them think and we must try to leave as little space as possible because they are on form,” commented the centre-back to reporters today.

“We can win against Barcelona – two or three games ago Real Sociedad won against them. It is difficult, they are at a great level, but we are going out to win.

“Barca may be tired from the midweek Cup match against Real Madrid. But, they have enough players in their squad for their game today and on Sunday.

“We come out stronger for the victory at Riazor last weekend. To confront Barcelona is a something else, we know of the difficulty involved, but we also know that we can win.

“There is no doubt that Barcelona put you through the most demanding games, luck also plays its part.

“The day La Real beat them they hit the bar three times and they are a team that always has chances, so we must be alert.”

The former Espanyol and Napoli man has recently been tried out in defensive midfield.

“I have more freedom, I can afford more mistakes, but it is also a very complicated position, you have to help the full-backs, the centre-backs and the other midfielders, you have to be highly concentrated and it requires greater physicality.

“What has Valverde changed about Valencia? I do not know what to tell you, we needed a change and I think it was for the better, but the biggest change has come from us, we are the ones on the field.

“If he has helped it has been in his experience and concepts, but most important has been us.”
