Emery: Sevilla needed win

Unai Emery was delighted for Sevilla’s confidence-boosting win over Granada, but warned that they still face a lot of work.

The Andalucians ran out comfortable winners over their struggling regional rivals in Week 21’s closing fixture, much to their Coach’s pleasure.

“There is satisfaction for the victory. We needed to win. We need to raise our self-esteem. We need to win for the European qualifying positions in the table,” commented Emery afterwards.

“And that, coupled with the power transmitted in the field that was noticed in the stands, we have allowed for this victory. We need a lot of perseverance.

“Today we have taken a step forward, but many remain. We have believed that we were not so bad, but let’s not now think that we are so good.

“We have to stay with just a dose of confidence. We were in search of self-confidence. There were things that the team was doing well.”

The new Coach was asked of the season’s ambition.

“Where we set out to go and without stopping for others. We have to look up. It was the natural habitat of Sevilla’s and to be in Europe would satisfy us.

“We do not occupy fourth place, we have a disadvantage. Our objectives will expand as we go forth. The semi-finals of the Copa del Rey have woken our ambition.

“We must find the two tracks. In two matches in the Cup we will know if we are there. We must show that we are able to compete in the semi-final and win it.”
