Vela: Stop Barcelona? How?

Carlos Vela has candidly admitted that Real Sociedad do not have a specific idea for how to stop Barcelona this weekend.

The Mexican and his teammates welcome the undefeated League leaders to Anoeta this weekend for Week 20’s fixture.

For the forward, there is no clear way that his team will be facing up against the Catalans, just as there hasn’t been for any of the other teams in the Division when facing Barca this term.

“Nobody knows what to do because, if it were known, another team would have beaten them,” reflected Vela at his pre-match Press conference.

“We will try to play our game, at least with the possession that they leave us, and we will hope that they have a bad day, with the intention that we try to achieve something.

“If they have a good day, it is impossible for us to do anything, they can do whatever they want.

“It is hard in attack because we will have the ball very little and will rarely generate much. Almost all the time will be spent running after them and that is difficult, but we are motivated that we will do well and we have to take what little of the ball we have and make sure that every ball we hit is dangerous and towards their goal.”

The young striker is at the midway point of the season with eight goals already to his name.

“I am doing well, yes, but you always want more and I’ll keep trying to improve my standard. It is important and I’m trying to score in every game.

“Hopefully I will stay on form and will continue working well with my teammates.

“Will I surpass last year’s tally of 12 goals? I have yet to. But, I hope to follow this path and break that barrier that I reached last year.

“Obviously if I score against Barcelona and it serves to get a result then that would be an important goal, but there would be no point to it if it is 1-5. So, the bottom line is, whoever will score will score, so long as it helps us to get some points.”
