‘Pep didn’t join Bayern for money’

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that the club would not have been able to compete for Pep Guardiola if it were just about money.

The Bavarians have landed the 41-year-old as their Coach starting from the summer and Rummenigge reflected on the feat at a Press conference today.

“If this had only been about money, Bayern would never have stood a chance to secure the services of Guardiola,” admitted the former attacking midfielder told reporters today.

“He is learning German intensively. He is fluent in Italian and English. This will make it easier to learn. He wants to speak German by the time he comes in the summer.

“We are happy and a little proud that Pep Guardiola has decided to join Bayern. A coach like Guardiola obviously has a certain appeal. He is a very serious and social guy.

“We got the impression that he was interested in coaching Bayern right away. He will probably bring two people with him to join the backroom staff.

“I spoke with him yesterday on the phone and the first thing he asked was ‘How’s Jupp?’

“For him, it is important to continue on from Jupp. He does not want to influence his work or anything. The great duty of the team is to be champion and to give a big farewell to Heynckes.”
