Higuain wary of Osasuna

Gonzalo Higuain is eager to return to playing and scoring for Real Madrid, even if he is aware of the challenge Osasuna represent this weekend.

The Argentine is in contention to feature from the start this weekend after a difficult spell on the sidelines with injury.

“I feel good. These have been two difficult months, but if the Coach wants me to play from the start then I am ready to play for 90 minutes,” the forward told reporters today.

“Rumours of my departure? I am as calm as when I first arrived at the club. I do not listen to them. I am concentrating on the team and on achieving this season’s aims, which are to try to win all three titles. I am here for the team.”

One of those titles is the League, which sees the team currently sat 16 points behind leaders Barcelona.

“We have to be realistic. It is difficult, but we have to keep fighting. There are a lot of matches left and we have to keep on winning.

“We want to get last season’s form back and we are on track to make the team into what it was. Last year we had a very good season, with a lot of good football and goals and it is true that our level has dropped a bit now which seemed a bit worrying.

“But football is like that and can change that easily. We have four or five months of competition left and we will try to achieve something special.”

Madrid will be without Pepe and Sergio Ramos for the next month, with the Portuguese recovery from surgery and Ramos now banned for insulting the referee when sent off during the midweek win over Celta Vigo.

“Sergio has apologised. These things happen in the heat of a match. He is an important player and we know what a professional he is.

“He has said sorry and we do not need to talk about the matter anymore. The referees make these decisions and we have to respect them.

“The absences for Osasuna? They are all important players and we cannot think about who is missing. The team that goes out will do all it can.

“I hope it will be a match where I can score again, but the important thing is to feel good physically. When it is my turn to play again I want to mark it with a goal, which is a great feeling.

“Forwards live to score and to enjoy that great sensation. Since I have been here, apart from last year, the games with Osasuna have always been close.

“It is a difficult ground and Osasuna need the points as much as we do.”

Higuain was asked for his take on the pressure fans are putting on Jose Mourinho.

“The team is together and we are behind the Coach. We have to respect him and support him. That is what will bear fruit and being us trophies.

“He is the Real Madrid coach and has a contract and I expect him to stay, even though I am not inside his head and do not know what decisions he will take.”
