Garcia: Comeback hard, but possible

Luis Garcia believes that Getafe can mount an unlikely comeback tonight, even if it is against ‘the best Atletico Madrid in history’.

The Coach was heavily critical of his players after their first leg Last 16 defeat to Atleti, accusing them of giving up towards the end of the 3-0 defeat.

The team also go into Thursday’s game trying to turn that around following on from Garcia’s more recent complaints of the weekend’s performance at Rayo Vallecano as being the worst since he took over.

Even so, Garcia believes that the Azulones can reverse the first leg deficit at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez tonight.

“If we had won 2-0 at Rayo, maybe everyone would believe more. But that is not the case. But, that does not mean that we cannot do so,” he told reporters in his pre-match Press conference.

“There are thousands of examples. Remember the Cup match between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, or the European Cup final with Liverpool…

“There are thousands of examples of things that seemed impossible, that is what we have to think.

“It will not be easy. We face a team that is not yet valued for everything they are achieving. We are against the best Atletico Madrid in the League in history. And in history Atletico are one of the greats.

“The opponent is very, very, very difficult. And last week Arda and Falcao did not play and this week I think they well.

“Our team is doing well, not superbly. Okay, we are in the Last 16 but there is no euphoria. This Cup game is different from the League and to try to turn the tie around our ambition must be the same as before.

“The team was very strong defensively, that is what it was before this run of results. We should go back to that.”
