‘Few can now afford Michu’

Michael Laudrup has admitted that even he did not expect Michu’s impact in British football and has reflected that few clubs can now afford him.

The Spaniard moved to Welsh side Swansea this summer from Rayo Vallecano for a cost of £2m and has since netted 16 times in all competitions for the Premier League side and has caught Vicente del Bosque’s attention in scouting for the Spanish national team.

“Michu is the deal of the season. I’m not the one who decides on his price, but we all know that the economic situation in the world is not easy and there are not many clubs that can afford to sign him,” reflected the Dane when asked of his striker’s future.

“The player is very happy here, I’m sure he will stay. I never expected that a new player arriving would score as many goals, what he is doing is amazing.

“He has always been an attacking midfielder, but we took a chance and he has scored, that is high level player.”
