‘Madrid affected by conflict’

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Vitor Baia has reflected that Real Madrid have been affected on the pitch by media conflict.

This season has seen rumours continue to surround the state of happiness of Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as the future of Coach Jose Mourinho and the state of his relationship with a number of the club’s players.

Madrid have slipped to 16 points behind Barcelona in the title race, which as Portuguese retired goalkeeper Baia believes, is only a consequence.

“These past few months have not been easy for Cristiano, nor for Madrid, nor for Mourinho,” reflected Baia.

“I feel that the team has noted the strong conflict between the Press and Mourinho and that has ultimately affected them.”

Baia was a member of the Porto side that under Mourinho won the 2004 Champions League. Just like Deco, the 43-year-old values the Portuguese over Pep Guardiola.

“Pep has done something extraordinary at Barca, but he has to demonstrate that outside the club.

“It is true that to reach the level of Mourinho, Pep has to win titles in other Leagues. He has time to prove that he can do well in other countries, just as Mourinho has done.”
