Messi, Del Bosque ‘Kings of Europe’

Lionel Messi and Vicente del Bosque have been awarded as the ‘Kings of European football’ by Uruguayan publication El Pais Ovacion.

This award is in its 27th year and is as voted for by 250 journalists from newspapers, magazines and news agencies based across America and Europe.

For the fourth year in a row, Barcelona forward Messi has been voted for as the best player in European football, equalling the record for times handed the award with Zinedine Zidane.

Messi received 108 of the accumulated votes to finish 15 ahead of teammates Andres Iniesta in second and 99 ahead of Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo in third. Iker Casillas and Radamel Falcao completed the top five positions.

Meanwhile, the Coach of the Year award has been handed to Spain Coach Del Bosque, who pipped Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola in the voting.

A team of 2012 was also selected and was also dominated by Spanish-based talent: Casillas; Alves, Ramos, Pique, Alba; Xavi, Pirlo, Iniesta; Messi, Falcao, Ronaldo
