Spanish national Coach Vicente Del Bosque has revealed he was also castigated at Real Madrid for dropping Iker Casillas.
The 61-year-old has had three separate spells in charge at Santiago Bernabeu between 1994 and 2003, and has coyly conceded that he understands what Jose Mourinho is going through.
“I am afraid to talk about this issue,” he told reporters. “Because whatever I say will be put in a different tone to the way I said it.
“We removed Casillas once without following orders from anyone. He sat out purely for technical reasons.
“I've known Iker for 10 years. He gives everything for Madrid.”
