Modric eyes win at Malaga

Luka Modric has reflected on what it means to be playing for Real Madrid, and looked forward to the weekend test at Malaga.

Los Blancos travel south to the Costa del Sol this Saturday for Week 17’s fixture with Malaga just a place below them in the table.

However, Modric sees that three points can be Madrid’s, if they are focused and perform as intended.

“If we play how we are capable of I am sure we can get three points there,” he reflected in an interview with

“It will be a difficult match, and very interesting for neutrals but everything depends on us and I am sure we can do it.

“Malaga has a very good team but we always go into matches to win and this one will be no different. Everything depends on us. I am sure we can win this match if we play how we can.”

The 27-year-old was the subject of a protracted summer transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to the Santiago Bernabeu, but is settled in his new climate now.

“Playing for Real Madrid is something very special. It is a very big club, one of the best, if not the best in the world.

“It is a great feeling to play here and I am enjoying every moment. Everything connected with the club is important; there is a great atmosphere. I am really enjoying playing for Real Madrid.

“The title race? We are Real Madrid. The dressing room is very united; Real Madrid has always been united and we will carry on like that until the end.”

Madrid are scheduled to resume training before the New Year, but it is not something that Modric is phased by, from his experience in the Premier League.

“This is not hard. We are professionals, we have to play matches all the time and I am used to playing at this time of year. In England we played at Christmas and New Year, and even just two days after Christmas.

“It is not a problem. Like I said before, I am used to it, it is normal for me, and when you are a professional you never mind playing matches at any time.”

The Croatian picked a compatriot when asked who his idol was growing up.

“Zvonimir Boban, without a doubt. He is Croatian; he was our captain and he played for Milan. He is one of the best footballers in Croatia’s history and he was my idol when I started playing football.”
