Canales nearing comeback

Sergio Canales has been given medical clearance to resume full training today and should be available to play again from the new year.

The attacking midfielder has been out of action since towards the end of last season when he injured the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee for a second time.

Undergoing surgery in May, the player has faced a seven-month wait to return to field work, but after meeting with medical staff this week, has been given the all clear to rejoin the main group for the first time from today’s training session.

It is also reported that the youngster will receive a full medical discharge, paving the way to return to first team action, on January 8, after a final assessment on his condition and response of his injury to training.

Los Che’s first fixture that Canales may be available for selection for would be the League meeting at home with Sevilla, on January 12, 2013, which would mark exactly eight months on from when the player first underwent surgery.
