Valverde: Nothing is decided

Coach Ernesto Valverde insisted Valencia’s place in the Copa del Rey quarter finals was not guaranteed after the 2-0 win at Osasuna.

Los Che ran out 2-0 victors at El Sadar last night, goals from Dani Parejo and Roberto Soldado giving them a clear advantage to take into the second leg of the last 16 clash. It was their second win in Pamplona in four days, Valverde’s side having left with a 1-0 result on La Liga duty last Saturday.

“It’s a good result, no doubt, but nothing is decided,” the former Olympiakos tactician stated post-match. “We have taken a step and given ourselves hope for the second leg. These results reinforce us going into Sunday’s game [against Rayo Vallecano].”

Valencia are yet to concede in the three games they’ve played since Valverde arrived at the club.

“Yes, it is important not to concede in Pamplona and keep a clean sheet,” he continued. “And we did well in Lille. Having that positive impression will help us grow.

“They started strong and pushed us. In the second half we were tight, but our attackers were more dangerous. We can never let our guard down against Osasuna.”
