Messi gave away record shirt

Real Betis goalkeeper Adrian is annoyed to have conceded Lionel Messi’s record breaking goal, but admires the Argentine’s style.

The 25-year-old custodian was between the sticks at the Estadio Benito Villamarin on Sunday when Barcelona forward Messi notched his 85th and 86th goals of 2012, thereby breaking Gerd Muller’s calendar year goals record.

“I’m annoyed that he broke the record against me,” stated Adrian after visiting a local school. “But I could see that Messi is a very humble person. The shirt he was wearing when he broke the record, he gave it to [Betis defender] Antonio Amaya. I congratulate him on the record.”

The former Betis B ‘keeper was satisfied with his side’s performance despite the 1-2 reverse.

“People were proud of the team. The fans know we lacked a bit of luck to get a draw.”

Adrian is now looking forward to Thursday’s Copa del Rey clash with Las Palmas.

“They’re in the Segunda Division, but they eliminated Rayo Vallecano, so it will be difficult. They are many games unbeaten and will want to stand up before their own fans.”
