Mourinho holds Coentrao back

Jose Mourinho has once more decided to delay Fabio Coentrao’s comeback from injury, whilst Real Madrid again are also without Gonzalo Higuain.

Coentrao recently returned to training after a month out on the sidelines with a thigh injury, but was left out of the weekend’s squad that travelled out to Real Valladolid.

In a similar measure for the team’s Last 16 trip out to Celta Vigo on Wednesday, Mourinho has once more opted to leave the squad’s only fit senior left-back at home as a precaution.

Alvaro Arbeloa, youth team member Nacho and striker Jose Maria Callejon are candidates to take the berth this week.

Meanwhile, Higuain’s prolonged recovery from a hamstring tear sees him miss another game that he was otherwise thought to have been back in time for.

Real Madrid squad to face Celta Vigo: Casillas, Adan, Jesus, Varane, Pepe, Ramos, Carvalho, Arbeloa, Nacho, Khedira, Kaka, Ozil, Alonso, Essien, Modric, Callejon, Di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Morata
