Valverde gets Valencia job

Valencia have confirmed that former Espanyol Coach Ernesto Valverde will succeed Mauricio Pellegrino on their bench.

Pellegrino was removed from his post on Saturday night after his side suffered a shock 5-2 defeat at home to Real Sociedad.

Earlier today the club were revealed to be in talks with Valverde , and a deal has now been sealed.

Aged 48, the tactician’s greatest achievement to date is taking Espanyol to the final of the 2006-07 UEFA Cup, where they lost to Sevilla.

He will be presented to the media tonight and travel to Lille for Los Che’s final Champions League group stage encounter on Wednesday, but will be limited to a watching brief as Salvador ‘Voro’ Gonzalez will take charge of the team.

His contract runs up until June next year.
