Pellegrini promises focused Malaga

Malaga Coach Manuel Pellegrini has insisted his side will not go into the Champions League match versus Anderlecht relaxed.

Los Boquerones have exceeded all expectations in their maiden Champions League game, assuring themselves of last 16 qualification and top spot in Group C with a fixture to spare.

“This game is important, from an economic point of view and because we want to go undefeated,” remarked the ex-Villarreal strategist.

“We will not be relaxed, because you always come out onto the field to play for something, and anyone wanting to lose does not belong in the sport.”

However Pellegrini did not go on to admit ‘the priority is now the League’, after another disappointing domestic result at the weekend, losing 1-0 to Getafe.

“Tomorrow is a different game, against a team with extensive Champions League experience. There is not much difference between the Malaga of the Champions League and that of La Liga.”

The Chilean will give a rare start to defender Oguchi Onyewu.

“He’s a player who has taken a few months to settle in. He will have to prove himself on the field, that’s the best way to do it.”
