Spanish club’s dressing room lock-in

A lower League Spanish side have decided to lock theirselves in the dressing room in protest at local authorities.

CF Palencia were relegated from Segunda Division B as punishment for non-payment of players wages at the end of last season and now play in the Tercera Division, the fourth tier of Spanish football.

The club is now in serious danger of going out of business altogether but the local council are refusing to provide financial assistance.

“The players are upset because the institutions are ignoring us and it seems they want the club to disappear,” captain Alberto Serrano told Efe.

“Everybody is working, the fans are moving, but it’s the institutions that have to take the first step and pay the subsidies in 2012 that they committed to at the time. This is the only measure we can take.”

The players will apparently leave the dressing room for a short while on Sunday afternoon to contest their latest League fixture.
