Getafe ‘should have been better’

Luis Garcia questioned his Getafe players’ commitment in recording a 0-0 draw at home to Ponferradina in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night.

The Madrid side still comfortably progressed to the Last 16 of the competition, thanks to a 4-0 first leg win, but Garcia was less than impressed with what he saw at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez against their Segunda Division opponents.

“We had chances, we did not take them. Then we switched off a bit. I did not like the game, but it is most important that we have progressed,” summed up the Coach at the end.

“We have done enough with the 4-0 first leg, but some people could have contributed more. At times they did, but there were also people who always perform in the League who did not in this game.

“The first half was not bad, the second half I did not like. We have to give more.

“In the second half there were players who should have given more, they have not been good for whatever reason.

“We should have given a win for the fans who braved the cold, I am sorry. Hopefully they can win on Saturday. Overall, we could have been better.”

Garcia’s forwards in the squad have still only managed two goals between themselves this season.

“True, there have been chances and we must continue to work on scoring goals. We are seventh in the League, we are through to the next round and that is with barely any goals from the forward.

“That means we are still doing things right.”
