Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Radamel Falcao have been nominated for the 2012 FIFA FIFPro World XI.

FIFA confirmed today the 15 strikers in world football who are in contention for a place in the Team of the Season award. Real Madrid’s Benzema and Ronaldo are in contention, as are Atletico’s Falcao and Barcelona’s Messi.

For Messi, Ronaldo and Falcao, it is the second nomination they each received on the day, with Messi and Ronaldo making the shortlist for the men’s Player of the Year award and Falcao finding that one of his goals scored in 2012 has made the shortlist for the Goal of the Season award.

The FIFPro World XI will be announced at the FIFA Ballon d’Or gala on January 7.

Nominated strikers for the FIFPro World XI: Sergio Aguero (Argentina / FC Manchester City), Mario Balotelli (Italia / FC Manchester City), Karim Benzema (France / Real Madrid), Edinson Cavani (Uruguay / AS Napoli), Didier Drogba (Costa de Marfil / FC Shanghai Shenhua), Samuel Eto’o (Camerún / FC Anzhi Makhachkala), Radamel Falcao (Colombia / Club Atlético de Madrid), Mario Gomez (Alemania / FC Bayern de Munich AG), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Suecia / FC Paris Saint-Germain), Lionel Messi (Argentina / FC Barcelona), Neymar (Brasil / FC Santos), Robin van Persie (Holanda / FC Manchester United), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal / Real Madrid), Wayne Rooney (Inglaterra / FC Manchester United) y Luis Suarez (Uruguay / Liverpool FC).
