Pochettino: Thank you Espanyol

Mauricio Pochettino has said thank you to Espanyol for his time at the club, which came to an end yesterday.

The 40-year-old agreed to leave his post as Coach by mutual consent after a weekend defeat to Getafe confined Los Pericos to bottom of the table after a poor opening 13 rounds of action.

“The fans have endured many things and now they deserve to recover their ambition,” stated Pochettino at his farewell Press conference.

“I also appreciate the support of those who have worked with me, many people who have worked in shade, but have been important.

“Also the players I have spent these years with. This is a club that I will always carry in my heart.

“As I said in my farewell as a player in 2006, I will always be available to this club for whatever they need and they will always find in me someone to lean on and to turn to.

“Hopefully someday I can return to this club because I feel like this is my home and family, it will be an honour to go around Barcelona saying we are Pericos.

“It’s a very strong bond, my children are Pericos. These decisions [the change of Coach] are always taken thinking of what is best for the team.”

The Coach has also foregone compensation on his €1.8m-a-season contract, agreeing to sever it by mutual consent.

“I am a man of my word and yes, I gave up the last year of my contract. I do not get paid.”
