Javier Aguirre is still the frontrunner to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Espanyol and he could be presented to the media later today.
Pochettino left his position on Monday after almost four years as Coach and former Atletico Madrid man Aguirre quickly emerged as one of the prime candidates to step in.
Aguirre is reported as having travelled to Barcelona last night to meet with the club’s board and newly elected President Joan Collet.
Several outlets in Spain are running the line that the 53-year-old has already put pen to paper on a deal that will take him to the end of the current season at Cornella-El Prat and offer him the option of a further year after that.
Aguirre also has experience in La Liga with Osasuna and most recently Real Zaragoza. Until his arrival is made official, B team boss Raul Longhi will act as interim Coach.
