Inept Valencia stun Pellegrino

The overriding emotion for Valencia boss Mauricio Pellegrino was shock after his side were smashed 4-0 by Malaga last night.

What was supposed to be a closely fought game between two clubs separated by a point at kick off turned into a savage rout, Francisco Portillo, Javier Saviola, Roque Santa Cruz and Isco all netting as the hosts ran amok at La Rosaleda.

“I feel very surprised and responsible,” said the Argentine trainer in his post-match Press conference. “We cannot hide what we were today, we played a terrible game. No one expected it in a game of such importance against a direct rival.

It was a fifth defeat in seven away games for Pellegrino’s team in La Liga this term.

“We have to take responsibility, myself and the players. We made many mistakes in possession, Malaga were much better. On the psychological side, I have many questions. Especially at the end we were punished, but we were not in the game from beginning to end.”
