Garcia Plaza: Don’t mention Europe!

Getafe Coach Luis Garcia Plaza has outlawed talk of Europe after his side’s surprise 2-0 win at basement strugglers Espanyol.

The Azulones emerged 2-0 victors from the midday match at the Estadio Cornella-El Prat, Pedro Leon and Mane the scorers. The result takes Garcia Plaza’s boys up to 7th in La Liga, and that's where they’ll remain unless Sevilla beat Atletico Madrid tonight.

“Every time we’ve talked about Europe we’ve messed up,” said the former Levante tactician. “So right now we’re fighting for nothing, to earn points in the classification and nothing more.

“Our first half was great but in the second they were better. They put two strikers in the area and practised a more direct football.

“We have 19 points and no one can take them away, but there is not much between the teams in La Liga and your position can change from one day to the next.”

Garcia Plaza ended by assessing the misfortune of the vanquished opponents.

“When you’re down it’s not easy to play. Fans always want the team to win of course, but now is the time when they must be with the team for 90 minutes.”
